We are considering Caleb for a boy's name, but don't like Cal. Do you think it's very common for Caleb to be called Cal, or not so much?

My friend has a son named Caleb and he goes by Caleb - no nicknames. I don't think you necessarily have to have a nickname for Caleb.

I've never heard of a Caleb going by Cal. Maybe Cale/Kale, which is a cooler nickname to me, but I agree with Nana. Usually Caleb's just go by that. HTH!

I wouldn't have associated those names, but I am the worst person because I just finished watching a movie with the character Dex... and never put together that his name was really Dexter, so I miss most nickname full name relationships!

Cal doesn't even register as a nn for me for Caleb.

^^ glad it's sticking, because like everyone else, I have never heard a Caleb go by Cal. I agree that *maybe* they may like Cale/Kale, but typically, Caleb is just that... Caleb. It's one of those wonderful 2 syllable names that doesn't generally get an automatic nn based on name

I don't think there is any natural "shortening" for Caleb.... just Caleb.
