DH and I are in love with the name MaKay. we have always liked it and thought of it as a boys name. Today my BF and i were talking about names and when i told her i like the name MaKay she said "that is such a pretty girls name" ..lol

Dh and i are 90210 fans and i have always had a thing for Luke perry . Well on the show his name was Dillon MaKay. So when i think of MaKay i think of a tough guy.....
Do you think it is girly??

I'm sorry, but I would have thought it a girl's name too. I think it's the "Kay" in it.

When I saw DH and BF in the same post, my jaw dropped. I thought you meant boyfriend, not best friend. hehe. Then I read on.

My daughter has a friend in church Sunday school named McKay...which is similar to MaKay...and she's a girl.

It's always going to be a girl name for me.

Thats ok..Maybe we should think twice before using it. It kinda makes me sad because we really liked it but i would rather know now then when my son is 9 and getting made fun of for it.

lol..Sorry about the DH and BF!! That must have been a funny thought!

So 3 votes for a girls name

Would it be bad to use as a middle name??
Like Anders MaKay??

Sorry but I also think it sounds pretty feminine...as a middle name I think it would be ok but if you're going to use it I wouldn't use an obvious surname as a first name...like Anders Makay Smith...written down it may be confusing which name is the first name and could be trouble later on when filling out forms and such.

Before you said u and your DH like the name for a boy, i too thought that it was a girls name..sorry.
I think it's the 'kay' sound that makes it sound so feminine.
And with all the female Makenzie's and Makenna's I can't imagine it on a boy.
That said though, I don't know anyone with the name so if I ever met a boy MaKay, it would probably grow on me and i'd think of it as masculine because he'd be the only one i know, kwim?

Thanks for letting me know what you think
I have always loved that name and i am kinda sad that I can't use it now. The last thing i want is for my son to have a girly name. I would use it for a girl but to me i would always think of Luke Perry...So it just doesn't sound girly enough(to me).

Thanks again for being honest

I agree I would have thought girl (being that McKenzie, MaKayla and those names are popular for girls) but I think it would be fine for a middle name!

I would still like to use it somehow. So maybe it wouldn't be that bad for a middle name as long as the first name is a strong boys name.

By the way your daughter is so cute
