Do you think the name Rosemary would be a good tribute to someone named Mary?

My grandmother was Mary Josephine. She hated Mary so she was always called Josephine or Jo. I like Josephine a lot and want to use it, but for some reason it seems wrong to call a little girl the same exact name as my grandmother ... I don't know why, the association with her is still really strong in my mind and for some reason I'm not comfortable with it.

But I don't want to use Mary because she hated it so much. DF already likes Rosemary so he wouldn't take any convincing to add it to consideration. I just wonder if it makes good sense as a namesake.

I think it's a nice way to include her!! We are going to combine the two grandmas names if we have a girl this time in honor of DH'S mom who recently passed... it's Kailyn (KY Lyn) so it's not entirely her name, but she's being honored!!!

I think its a lovely tribute. If we ever have a girl we're combing our Moms names for the middle name (June+Linda=Julia).

It's okay. It reminds me of Shallow Hal.

I think Rosemary is a nice idea to honor your grandma. But, I'd probably give her a nn - Rose or Rosie, maybe.
Thank-you GraysMama for my beautiful siggy!

It's a nice idea, but honestly Rosemary just doesn't do it for me. All I can think of is the movie Rosemary's baby. I like Josephine a lot better! I love the nn Josie!
But I know what you mean about the strong association with your Grandma...we liked Lydia but it was too hard not to think of dh's 95 yr old Grandma. I think Rosemary has that same strong association for me - i think of a very old lady and have a hard time imagining it on a little girl.
