Does anybody have any experience, information, or insights about this? Let me give a little background information first. I'm Gail (36), Dan my DH (31), we've been TTC for over three years now with two losses and two failed IVF cycles. We're getting ready to start our third IVF cycle near the end of this month (I start Lupron on 7/23 as long as the preauth through insurance goes through). SO, yesterday I get a very surprising call, my niece who has three children under 4 years old (the youngest being 3 months old) just found out she is pregnant again (I won't even get into this!)....anyway, she says that there is no way she can support/care for another child, and especially with her husband getting ready to be deployed for at least a year. Anyway, she has asked DH and I if we would adopt the baby she is now pregnant with, saying that she'd sign any papers we wanted her to sign, would move from GA closer to us so that we could be a part of the pregnancy, birth, and etc. She also said if we wanted her on a special diet, or anything else that she would do it....

We told her that this was a lot to digest (especially since I haven't talked to her in probably close to a year!)....that's a whole other story...

We also understand that if we get pregnant this IVF cycle that we could possibly have more than one infant within 3 months of each other, and we're ok with that.

We're going to be contacting a lawyer on Monday in hopes to get some information, but I have always found good information here on JM as well! I really want to do this, but we have to make sure that it's going to be a good decision for all involved.

Thanks for any info you can provide me with

My twin boys bio mom is my godchild, while not blood family, its close enough.

I think your niece is a very special lady for doing this. I would find an atty that specializes in adoption in PA. What will make this easier for you, is if she does move to PA from GA.
And now there are 6....
Traci 14
Leigh 9
Brandon 6

Kyle & Luke (1-22-2009)

I know there was one here a long time ago, but I can't remember her name. Haven't seen her in forever. She started with almost the same post you have and ended up with her sibling's baby. It worked out well for her. She just had to get a lawyer to get the paperwork ready for her.
