Did you grow up with or know anyone (adult) who is adopted? Also, for those who have adopted, how often do you talk to your child, if at all, about the subject of adoption?

I was just thinking about this because I have recently been made aware that I couple of people I've known for quite a while are adopted. It amazes me how much more adoption is talked about these days than when I was growing up. My girls and I talk about their adoptions all the time. My oldest dd still has very fond memories of China (she was 5 1/2 at adoption) and loves to tell the story of where she is from and how she got here. Both of my girls ask to look at the photo albums of our trips on a regular basis and can't wait for us to visit China again. We plan on taking them in the summer of 2009.

I agree... it wasn't talked about very much when I was growing up either. I'm sure I probably knew someone, but off hand, I can't name anyone at all.

I was adopted...

I haven't really talked to my children about it that much.. they are too young to really understand it... but when they are older I don't mind telling them and we plan on adopting a girl to add to our perfect family.. and they will know about adoption thru here as well.

I have 2 cousins that are adopted. And now that I think about it....the one who is older than I am (38),her adoption was and is never really discussed, I have no idea why, but my younger cousin who is adopted , his family is more open to talk about it.....it just hit me..... I need to call my aunt in Az. for some guidance through the process!!
