We can not afford any more children, Im not pregnant, but If I do become pregnant again I couldnt get an aboriton unless It was unhealthy for me and the child.. I would want to do an open adoption.. I would just like to know how the child was doing, help if I could.. like an aunt or something.. I was wondering how many people do this, I would understand it being odd at first ..Just wondering

A lot of people do it actually. It's very common in the U.S. Check out the birth moms forum too. Some of them went through open adoptions with their biological child(ren).

Having recently gone through the adoption process I can tell you that our adoption agency social worker who has been in the field of adoption for over 25 years worded it this way.
Almost all adoptions this day in age are OPEN, it is just a matter of the degree of openness.
Believe it or not this is something that is decided between both the birthmother and adoptive parents.
For us our child's birthmom would like pictures and phone calls and has said that she doesn't ever want to meet our daughter.
This was all fine for us.

So this is something that should you be in the position to place your child for adoption, should that ever happen you will be able to dialoque what works best for you.

wow.. that great.. I mean after I had my kids they were in ICU for 2 months and I felt soo alone.. I mean It was soo hard not having them with me, even tho I know they would be home soon.. If I ever get pregnant again, and I could not afford to have another child I would love to have an open adoption.. I would like to have pictures and visit, not taking the child with me but visiting like once a month or so.. just going out to eat and see how they are doing.. like a friend of the family.. thanks this helps me ease my mind.. If I were to get pregnant again I dont see how I could just give my child away and never see them again.. and I couldnt see my kids suffering because I couldnt afford things they need and want..

We finalized our son's adoption last year when he was 7 years old. He has ds and many health issues and his bio mom just couldn't take care of him. I make her a scrapbook and our family's get together at least twice a year. It's wonderful.
