It appears that my husband and I have decided to try to adopt a baby. I just recently lost our son due to giving birth at 22 weeks. I went to the doctor today and I can still have children, but I would have to go on bedrest at 14 weeks if I got pregnant again. I have an almost 14 yr old step daughter and a 2 yr old and work full time, so that's not going to be an option and the risks that come with being on bedrest that long, well, we decided that we are not going to try again. I would like some information. We would like to try to adopt a baby boy from the US. Money is scaring me. Has anyone here adopted a baby from here and if so, can you give me some advice? Thanks.

Thanks Jaidynsmum for my beautiful siggy!

Chrisa, I'm sincerely sorry to hear about your loss. I am going through an adoption here in the US. But it's not a typical adoption it's a relative/kinship adoption and has different types of laws that can be bypassed. First off when you are talking about an adoption you have to ask yourself if you want and infant or an older child? Do you want to go through a state agency and get one or an adoption agency. There are lots of things to consider when decided to adopt. Infant adoptions usually take longer to go through in the U.S. because the desire for an infant is so high. You can go through an adoption agency, an attorney.

What I did was used search engines and looked up adoption and read through all my options. My DH and I were actually going to go through the state and adopt an older child we had every intention of starting the process this summer, but in April of this year my brother and SIL approached us about adopting the child my SIL is pregnant with now.

Hi Chrisa and welcome to the group! I'm Marla, mom of 4, 2 bio boys and 2 cuties from China. I am so sorry for your loss, I have seen memorials for your sweet baby boy all over JM. My prayers are with you and your family.

I'm sure some of the other ladies who are more experienced in domestic adoption can answer your questions better than me, but I would start with some basic research about adoption in your state. The laws vary greatly by state, so you'll need that information first. From what I understand, the cost of domestic adoption can be quite reasonable, so don't let that scare you. You might see if there's an agency in your area that offers seminars on adoption and you might also consider fostering to adopt.

I wish you the very best in your adoption journey, please keep us updated as to how it's going! Take care!!
