I have been using taxact for years. I get more with them than filing all by myself, because it tells you what you qualify for, does the math for you, etc. I use the FREE one every year--I can EFILE for free!

I just completed ours a couple seconds ago, and we're getting back of 6K! YIPPEEEEEEE

Thanks for the info. Do you have to have a certain income to file for free?

nope. There's a free version. You don't even have to link up through the irs anymore like you used to have to in order to get it for free.

Just free!!!! YAY!

I did ours through H&R Block about 3 years ago when it was free from my credit union to do just a general federal tax filing. No help from H&R Block, etc.

Now, every year I get an email to do my federal for free! This year, they sent a disk in the mail to do it for free.

And in VA, you can do your state taxes online for free, which is great.

I just want to second this recommendation! I've been using them for the past few years.

I just used them this weekend ... I'd never done our taxes before (always had someone else do them) and it was EASY!!! I paid the $15 package because I wanted to efile both state and federal and it costs that much ANYWAYS

We are getting our deposit this Friday! Generally the rule is: if it's accepted by midnight Thursday night/Friday morning, then it gets there the following Friday! SO... it's taking only 8 days!

In light of the news about our baby, the money couldn't have come at a better time, either... we'll be needing the extra cash since my DH will be taking days off, we'll be making the long haul to Tampa a lot, etc... we are also going to have to be paying someone to be here for our other kids... don't know who yet, but we have to get someone that's willing to be here taking care of them and the house. I hate the thought of someone else doing my job... but I can't leave my baby at the hospital... I just can't.
