Is this cheaper/better/healthier? I'm considering doing this...although I have NO IDEA where these places are around here. LOL! I hear they are good to go to. Tips/ideas?

Do you mean local farmer's markets types of places? We have several roadside markets here in Florida and that's where we buy our watermelons since they're much cheaper and bigger than at the supermarkets. Other than that, I haven't gotten any other produce from them.

But being raised in the middle of farm country in Michigan, I can tell you that the produce should be cheaper and fresher at those markets. As for being healthier, I wouldn't say so. Although there is a big movement towards organic these days, most farmers still opt for pesticides in order to maximize their crop yields to make the most money.

Where are you located, Aspen? I responded to this thread in Financial Planning, but if I know approximately where you are, I can get a better idea on where your local markets will be.
Definition (Webster's 2006) of "MandiK":
A 20something, graduate student, college prof, tree hugging, time managing, coupon addicted, cosmetic selling, dirt worshipping, girl who is in love with Ben and welcomed Sofie Grace on 1/31/11.
