What do you think of animals being used for entertainment purposes at the circus, Las Vegas type acts, Sea World, etc?

What about zoos and aquariums?

It depends on the organization. Some treat them wel (like Sea World and depending on the zoo/wild animal park) whereas some don't treat them so well. As long as the animals are treated humanely then I completely support them. I think Sea World is wonderful, if they aren't treated well (I know Ringling Brothers took A LOT of heat quite awhile back on inhumane practices) then I don't support them.

I agree with Meghan it depends on how they are treated. Many of the zoos here are "natural habitat" type zoos.

Thanks .:Shortcake:. for my great siggie

I like zoos and aquariums because MOST of them are all about conservation through education and I think that's very important. I would lump Sea World in with zoos and aquariums because even though they train animals for shows, the purpose of their shows is for educating children about marine life.
I don't really like the idea of animals in the circus. Even under the best circumstances, I just don't think it's fair to the animals. All the traveling and parading around in front of crowds, IDK, just doesn't seem right to me.

I will NEVER go to a circus!! I refuse too, I will never take my child to one either. Animals were not put on this planet for our entertainment! The way they train these animals is horrific. I got a degree for wildlife conservation, and I did a lot of research regarding this subject and I am very passionate about it.
When it comes to zoo's I do support some zoo's if they are AZA. They seem to be the most humane and wanting the animals to have their natural habitat to thrive in.
I honestly dont know how I feel about sea world. The recent killer whale attack on the trainer..It goes to show wild animals should not be in captivity. The whales and dolphins go off sonar..with the glass and cement walls and the cheering and clapping, its very loud to them! It hurts their hearing..But many people dont know that.
I do believe in protecting our endangered species and keeping them around to preserve their kind, for our children and our children's children to learn about them..but we can find a way to do it humanly.

I disagree.

That trainer knew better, she knew she was not supposed to get in the water with that particular whale, yet chose to lay down on that platform where he was able to grab her. I watched the video of it over and over again, that was 100% HER FAULT. That whale was not mean, malicious, and everything else that spectators pinned on him. He was never properly trained on how to interact with humans, and she made a simple mistake that cost her her life... It's sad, yes, but as an animal trainer, she chose a career path that could lead to unfortunate circumstances like that... At least she died doing something she loved.

I have no qualms with most zoo facilities or Sea World. I think they are wonderful and treat animals well.
