Books?

What books did you read before, during or after pregnancy? Do you think they helped prepare you for baby?

Ina May, Natural Childbirth, and a bunch of others my midwife gave me. None of it helped once I was in labor. Research I've done online helped once baby was here more than any books. I stray from traditional parenting books though.

Re: Books?

Actually...the only books I think I've read are my textbooks.
My major is Human Dietetics and as a result, I had to take a Maternity and Child Nutrition class.

I don't plan on reading parenting books or really any of the 'What to Expect' books.
My SO wants to jump into a book pile, so I'll leave him to that.

What to Expect When You're Expecting is a godsend. i also picked up some books on breastfeeding, and recently Mayo Clinic put out a good book about pregnancy.

Re: Books?

Thus far the only book I've read is Bring Up Bebe, most of the information in there seemed almost common sense to me, but perhaps its just the way I was raised. There were no "ah ha!" moments while reading it BUT it was a good read and I'd recommend it. I'm considering reading The Idle Parent as it was a recommendation. DH is reading Dude, You're Gonna Be a Dad! and he's liking it so far.

So far though I've mostly been researching the different topics I'm interested in online than reading books. There is just so so so many out there and it's hard to even begin to think of what kind of books to search for. Some other books I'm thinking about checking out are How to Talk so Kids Will Listen & Listen so Kids Will Talk, The Whole-Brained Child, Children's Spaces, & Anything on baby signs.
