For those with Epi-pens, what age did they prescribe one for you LO?

I'm just wondering because my son has not been prescribed one yet.. I'm guessing it's because he is so tiny. He's maybe 22 lbs @23 months.. I've been told to keep benadryl on hand but that's about it..

Re: Epi-Pens
My son got his first script for one at 2 1/2 but he has always been on the 90% for weight. He's 5 weeks shy of being 5, weighs 46 pounds and has an epi jr, which is the same as he's always had...but again his weight has always been on the high end

Re: Epi-Pens
Thanks ladies for your response..

My A.J was high on the weight scale as a newborn until he got sick with allergies. He went from the 75th percentile to the 5th.. Luckily my son has never had any anaplatic problems with allergies.. Most are related to eczema on his skin and asthma (which is like eczema in the lungs).. I'll look at it as a good thing he does not need that at least.. :)

Re: Epi-Pens
Yes it's a good thing...Nathan ate 1 cashew and one bite from another one and his throat closed within 10 minutes. No outward symptoms or signs...it was awful...the epi saved him but that experience was awful. He had a knot and bruise on his thigh for 2 weeks+ afterwards.

Re: Epi-Pens
My DD was just prescribed epi-pen jr. She was 1 in July (we had her allergist appt 2nd week of August). So she is just 13 months and only weighs about 19lbs.

Re: Epi-Pens
Danny got his in December or January. He was around 30 pounds. I think it is a judgment call for the doctors. If the benefits outweigh the risks they will still give it. If a 19 pound child could have to stay overnight for a racing heart rate and possible other complications from the Epi that is better than having a 19 pound child that is purple becuase her throat closed from a reaction 15 minutes ago... KWIM? Life-threatening reactions to meds are acceptable when they are treating more life-threatening problems...

Re: Epi-Pens
We were prescribed on at 8 months because of his severe reaction to eggs, Orion is about 22 lbs or so. With him the benefits are far more then the risks.

Re: Epi-Pens
Suzannah was prescribed her epi-pens at 5 months after a horrible reaction to eggs. She has really really sensitive allergies (all are anaphylactic) and has had the epi-pen 5 times in her short little life. Worst experiences of my life.
