Oh my gosh!
I got an email stating that a request for student teaching was sent to my first choice school. I would LOVE, LOVE to be at this school, so please cross your fingers, toes, arms, whatever for me! I really, REALLY want to be placed at this school!

These next few days are REALLY going to be on edge for me until I hear back from the school! My second choice school is great too, but really, the first one is REALLY where I want to be :)

So please send good vibes my way, please!!!

Re: Oh my gosh!
So somehow the email from my school didn't make it to who oversees student teaching placements... so Ive been waiting for nothing. But alas, I talked to someone today and they actually do need a secondary education student teacher, and she seemed VERY optimistic. I am very, VERY optimistic. She basically said "I have a staff meeting with the teachers today, Ill call you either today or tomorrow with a placement." So, if everything goes well, I am pretty much assuming this school is 100% a go. This was my first choice school, and my college said most students do not get their first choice school. So... finally a stroke of luck? lol!

This school has me in all smiles, I REALLY, REALLY want to work at this school, so please, cross fingers, toes, hair, arms, legs, diaper pins, whatever you have that you can cross... I NEED IT CROSSED! lol

Im really stoked!

Re: Oh my gosh!
Well :(

I waited for that call. Patiently waited, staying in touch with the school while they worked out the kinks for my placement.

And I guess waiting pays off because I GOT IT!

lol I just got the call a couple hours ago that I am placed in both middle and high school with a teacher that does primarily drama but I will be able to do a lesson on whatever I want. I am not too versed in drama outside of what you are supposed to know (you know... Romeo and Juliet, Othello, the required reading) and I certainly don't know how to teach it too well. Up for the challenge... but I am just not a drama teacher, lol. But she said that is okay, I am able to do any kind of lesson I would like for my unit. I am SOOOOOOOO STOKED! I really, REALLY would love to teach at this school so I am really hoping to make an impression and land a job here :)

My smile is a mile wide today!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the waiting has worked out.... it's just been nutty because they have been planning for a trip and have 4 other students placed there in other contents. The counselor is leaving for a trip for a week, so she wanted to call me today and apologized for calling on a Sunday and I said that was Okay... that was the best call I could have received!

I found out there were some books written about this school, so now I am about to buy them from amazon or find out if my local store has them and check them out. I had no idea that there were books written about it, so now Im intrigued!

Thanks everyone for the wishes! Im soooo stoked!

Re: Oh my gosh!

Drama was one of my favorite classes in highschool. We mostly did improv, with two monologues for our finals. I have the best memories, and some amazing pictures. LOL.

Re: Oh my gosh!
Thanks Miss! I found out I'm teaching my own class... starting Thursday. No waiting at this one! lol so now it's a bit of a rush to go "Oh crap... need to put stuff together NOW" but it's all good. Im just trying to be creative, to WOW them.... and hopefully land a job :)

We had a staff development day and seriously, this is my dream school. I am just in love with it. I can't wait for this next semester :)

Re: Oh my gosh!
I can not get over this week... it's been Heaven. Beyond bliss. I am SO glad I went into this field, and so blessed to be at this school and with the teacher I am. The entire staff is amazing. This school is a place I would be content to take the crap wage of a teacher and go to work and just have fun, loving my kids, scraping by because you know what, I LOVE my job.

I taught for my first time this week, my own class, and it was awesome! The kids are SOOOOO good! They are absolutely a dream. They love to be there, they talk to you (as opposed to sitting there and staring at the teacher, hating the class like most kids do). I am helping with the school play and it's going to be amazing.

Ah I cant speak any more higher of the kids... they seriously are just awesome. LOVE them! They fight over me sitting next to them, include me in their conversations, they responded extremely well to how I taught, and the teacher I'm working with is just awesome. He's a complete nutball and I love it.

Can I say again, I love this school? lol! I am going to leave this experience a changed person. I am so blessed to be in this school for student teaching, I can only hope that I land a job here, because I wake up at 545 everyday and usually I snooze my alarm, dreading to wake up. This week I get up at 545 and can't snooze any more! lol

I don't want this semester to end! And this is only the first week, lol!

Re: Oh my gosh!
Do you mind if I admit my jealousy? I most definitely do not work at my dream school.

Congrats by the way.

Re: Oh my gosh!
Thank you! I am sorry you do not work at your dream school :(

Today I had my first moment of being a "real" teacher and thinking on the fly, and having my first moment of really feeling for a student.

I am teaching a slam poetry class, and today I showed a poem which talked about suicide. This hits home for me since a friend of mine committed suicide 2 years ago. Well during discussing the poem, a girl started to cry and you can tell she was about to lose it. You can tell something happened in her life where it really hit home and the kids were saying they really liked the poem, but she was sitting there quietly, shaking her head about to lose it. I was about to lose it because seeing her at her breaking point brought me to the edge about my friend. So instead of going on with the lesson and making people talk about the bad feelings, I thought... let kids pick a happy poem and completely divert my plan.... or keep going on and continue with my lesson? I stopped my lesson, looked at her, said "Let's move on, would you like to pick the next poem?" And let her pick the next video. It actually was really good, because it opened up ideas for the next lesson. I went up to her afterward and asked her if she was okay and you can tell she just had this heaviness in her and she didn't want to talk about it, and I felt horrible. We didn't get to the writing I wanted to do at all but it didn't matter... all that mattered to me was making her feel better and in the end, the video she picked ended up opening up a great idea for a lesson. So I hope that makes her feel better.

But I just felt horrible, because while I hurt over my friend, I can deal with it during lessons and content dealing with suicide. But watching her nearly break almost made me break, and it was so hard to keep it together while telling her it was okay to feel that way. I wanted to tell my story about my friend to relate to them... but I knew that if I let myself open up about my friend any more than what I said, I would have broken and would have shut down more than I already did.

Anyways, it was a teaching moment for me that it's okay to end your lesson and move on with an idea from a student, and it was a lesson in compassion for a student. I felt horrible for her, I just wanted to hug her after I watched her break inside. You could tell she was hurting, and it killed me, because I know how it hurts because Ive lost someone to suicide too.

It just hurt me to see her hurt.
