Question for those of you that have had GD
When I was pregnant with my DD I passed my glucose test with no problems but she was born at 37 weeks weighing 8 lbs 8 oz. The pedi on call immediatly suspected GD and tested her sugars and they were fine.

Now I'm preggo again and my OB is concerned b/c he says even though her sugars were okay I may still have had GD that developed after I took the glucose test.

Is he right? Or would my DD have had blood sugar problems for sure if I had GD?

I go in next week for my first 1 hour glucose test.

Re: Question for those of you that have had GD
Yes, you may have had GD without it affecting her sugars. It can sometimes develop later than 22-24 weeks, whcih is when it usually develops. It can crop up earlier too, my mom had it at 14 weeks with my brothers. If you've had it before it can even start right away when you get pregnant.

That being said, not all big babies are big because of GD. With GD causing the complications it does it's better to be safe than sorry, but it's certainly possible your daughter was big because she was going to be big at birth.

Re: Question for those of you that have had GD
I don't know when they tested you during your first pregnancy but my doctor only ordered the test at 16 weeks- despite me failing the 1 hour test. I really wish now they'd repeated it later in the pregnancy though at the time I trusted my doctor. During this pregnancy I've been labeled as GD and I haven't had trouble controling it with diet at all. Best of luck to you!
