has anyone had back labor during a home birth? i've never had anything but a home birth and i've had horrible back labor every single time. i think it's just the way my body is because my babies were never sunny side up. any techniques that i could use to make it easier. an epi at the hospital has crossed my mind, it's been so bad in the past!

i really wanted a midwife but decided too late in the game. we're even lucky enough to have a midwife center here affiliated with a hospital. i had awful back labor with my son. i didn't have any drugs until the last hour and i couldn't believe the difference the drugs made. my advice would be hold out as long as you can and then get the drugs. because they waited so long for my walking epi, i didn't need any pitocin.

PRESSURE! Jason and my midwifes student Katie each took a side around my lower back/butt and just pushed down when it hurt so bad in my back. I kept thinking if I could get drugs, I would but obviously at home you can't haha. Thats what helped me along with breathing in my nose and out my mouth.

I had back labors too for my last 3 babies. What worked best was : Pressure (and lots of it) on my back from hubby, hot water being poured on my back (i had waterbirths) and a taking a hot shower was good too.

I had back labor this last time with Israel (unassisted pregnancy/birth)...he was posterior. The only thing that helped at all was being on all fours swaying and having dh push as hard as I could handle and not fall to the floor. It did freaking hurt bad...I wished I was at the hospital getting a c-section. Dd was unassisted too but no back labor and I wished I was at the hospital getting an epi, but the back labor was much worse.
