Hello ladies! I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and planning on having a home birth. I just watched the first two episodes of more business of being born. I have my blood panel scheduled next week with the ob/gyn that delivered my son because my home birth midwife doesn't do that but requires it. She also doesn't do ultrasounds and I know my ob will want to do one. I know exactly what day I conceived so I don't need dating and I don't have any risk factors. #1 was a super healthy, easy pregnancy. But it would be kind of nice just to see that everything is on track for 7 weeks for peace of mind. I'm gettinga 3D scan at 16 weeks because that is the earliest they will do a gender scan... I would just wait for the anatomy scan at 20-24 weeks but I am trying to keep the pregnancy a secret until I know the sex, and last time I popped at 17 weeks. I probably will be showing by like 15 weeks since this is my second... anyway after the anatomy scan I won't be getting any more... does 7weeks, 16weeks, and 24 weeks sound like too much exposure for the baby? What have you all done or do you plan on doing?

Congrats and welcome!

I've had more ultrasounds than I had planned but I started having painful contractions at 15 weeks and a short cervix so they wanted to monitor me closely. I also had a low lying placenta and needed an ultrasound to clear me for a home birth. I don't think 3 ultrasounds is too many, but personally I would have wished for only 1-2, dating if necessary and anatomy. I'm hoping my next pregnancy to only have 1 if necessary since gender doesn't matter to me and neither would an anomaly, but I would like to be prepared for such.

In the end do what you are comfortable with. But if you know your conception date then an early ultrasound isn't critical. I'd probably forego the 3d as well and have an anatomy scan at 18-19 weeks instead.

Re: Ultrasounds??
Ditto on skipping the 3D scan.

We had one ultrasound with our first 3 babies, just because we wanted to know the gender. With 4 (and now 5) we haven't done a single ultrasound.

Re: Ultrasounds??
3 isn't "too many" if that's how it works out and you are comfortable with that. I just had one each with my 2 pregnancies, the 1st I just had the 13 week scan for downs, the 2nd we just did a full anatomy panel at 20 weeks.
