Has anyone here had an unassisted birth? Would you do it again? I'm seriously considering it but am trying to gather as much information as I can before deciding. I really like the idea of the birth truly being a private event- not even shared with a MW. At the same time, it scares me a little. Thankfully I have more time to think about it.

Re: Unassisted?
I had an unplanned one. My birth story is up In the unassisted birth section, I know a few moms who have planned UAs, I personally loved it but I loved that my midwife came to see if I needed stitches and to help clean up

Re: Unassisted?
The thought of doing this birth UA for the most part is really appealing to me. Having MW show up at the very end and just take care of any tearing/stitches and cleanup would be fab.

Re: Unassisted?
I'm seriously thinking about it. Both of my children were born in the hospital- I was induced with my daughter because of cholestasis and my son was born the day after the OB, without my permission, did a membrane sweep during a cervical check. I had both of them without pain meds despite the nurses PLEADING with me to have one with with daughter. Provided there are no complications this time around I'd really like to do this without the interference of doctors who insist that they know better than you what is best for you or your baby. But it worries me- what is the cord is around the baby's neck? That's my biggest worry, the rest I know I could handle.

That would be the least of my concerns, as it's pretty common to have it wrapped around at least once. There are many more serious issues that could arise. Doing a UA birth, full on, requires a lot of research and some self-taught medical knowledge.

Definitely not anything I'm willing to learn, which is why I still have a MW and I want her there at the end.

Re: Unassisted?
Like Jackie, the idea appeals to me, im the leave me alone during labour type, however, i do not have the medical training needed for a true emergency situation. So while we are always prepared for the possibility i could go faster than the MW could get here, a UA birth is not something i would plan on doing

Honestly cord around the neck is so so common, its not really a medical emergency, like jackie said its really one of the least of your worries.

That being said, if you and whoever you plan to have with you for birth, educate yourselves about what to do in a true emergency, signs to look for ect then it can be a very safe and empowering experience.

best of luck with your decision :)

Re: Unassisted?
Like Bree said we also planned for a UA because of my history of fast labors. I wish you luck in your decision!
