Neither of these is an exhaustive list, by the way!

Questions I get asked all the time:
How much is your fee?
Do you take insurance?
What are reasons we'd need to transport?
How often do you do prenatals?
How do I get a sonogram?
What if I don't want to do [insert some intervention or test here]?

To be fair, I'm the only choice for a homebirth provider in the area, so people tend to choose homebirth and get me by default, which means I get lots of nuts and bolts questions and not as many "I'm looking to see if we click" questions. I look forward to the day when there are other midwives in my area to provide some options for parents!

Questions I would ask if I were interviewing a midwife:
Tell me your favorite birth story of all time.
What is the worst birth you've ever been to? Why was it the worst? Tell me the birth story.
Have you ever lost a baby? Under what circumstance?
What if I don't want to do [insert some intervention or test here]?
Have you ever not made it to a birth? Under what circumstance?
How much experience do you have?
Is there any circumstance where you would feel uncomfortable attending my birth because of inexperience?
Who will you bring to the birth with you? When do I get to meet this person?
How long do you usually stay after the birth?
What are the minimum and maximum amounts of time you'd stay?
In a transport situation, who would go with me to the hospital? How long would that person stay with me?

Those are such good questions! I think I just asked a lot of basic ones, how long would you be comfortable with me being overdue, would you be willing to help me deliver a breech, etc. I''ve totally fallen in love with my MW, but if I ever have to god forbid, do it again far away, those are great questions!

Great list! I found one of the questions you listed particularly helpful--what reasons would require transport? I also asked for the rate of transport. Some midwives who really talked up homebirth transported 50% of their clients!! I knew those midwives would not be a good fit for me.
