Need advice on PCS'ing while pretty pregnant
Hi ladies, we are PCS'ing to Oahu at the end of April. That puts me at 28 weeks pregnant. So, hopefully we'll still have time get a house before having the baby in July. Do you ladies have any tips for me? Our last move DD was 7 months old and it was from CA to IL. So, the whole, "leaving the mainland" thing is different on top of worrying about having a baby close to that time.
Any advice is appreciated!

I'd start researching if you are more likely to deliver on post, or off post. If off post, I'd start looking up doctors you may want to see. I've moved twice around the 32 week range, once from Germany to Texas, and just a couple weeks ago back to Texas. Both times I had to wait until I was actually in Texas, before I could really find out from TriCare if I would be allowed to be seen off post. It can be a bit stressful trying to do it all at the end, but I've been pretty lucky that both pregnancies have gone smooth for me. Just make sure on your long flight you are up and walking a bit. My flight from Germany to the States left me so swollen my ankles had muffin tops around my socks.

Hawaii! As I sit in freezing weather I am happy for you! I agree, you need to find a doctor right away and researching early will help you get a doctor you can be comfortable with. Keep all your medical records on hand! Ask for copies of labs and ultrasounds from your current doctor to take with you to your new doctor. And most importantly, do you have family or close friend that can go with you and help you with your move. Just for a few days? My sister has always been there to help me with my moves! I am sure someone will volunteer for Hawaii! Remember your going to be tired and it will be hard to move around like normal. Not to mention it is always warm and humid there. Good Luck!

Re: Need advice on PCS'ing while pretty pregnant
Thanks ladies. I know I will be a military hospital. I have a friend who is there now and is also currently pregnant. So, she has been able to help me out and knowing what to expect.
As far as moving, I'm sure someone would come to help us move but we're not even sure when we'll be able to get a house in housing, we are also exploring options under BAH range too. So, kind of useless for someone to come until we know we have a house.
I guess that's my biggest concern is being in the Navy Lodge and having to bring my baby back there. I guess there are so many things that I want to plan for but won't really have any idea until we get there/the baby comes.

Hey!! Both my husband and I are stationed here now (but we're in the army in the center of the island). If you have any non-navy specific questions about being here, let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm assuming you're planning to have your baby at tripler? Good luck in your pcs!

I was going to say, you will probably deliver at Tripler. I was stationed on Oahu in 03'. I wasn't pregnant, my first was 3 when we arrived. So I'm sure much has changed, but you are blessed that you have a pregnant friend stationed there now. I don't know much about Navy housing, but I had to spray for spiders in our housing. The brown recluse really scared me with my little one running around. I bought a sprayer from the hardware store because housing wouldnt spray more than twice a year. And they liked to live under the 1in gap from the baseboards to the laminant flooring throughout the house.

We are navy and currently live in the military housing provided through Forest City. Tripler is a hop and skip and jump away. There are other hotels out here that you can use that accept TLA. As for housing. That is pretty quick unless it has changed over the years since we were here. We got here on July 22nd, 2010 and we were moving into a place by the first week in August. And that was based on choosing that house as opposed to one that opened sooner. Just make sure that you have your documentation to get into a big enough house. If wanting to ensure that you are close to the clinics and the military hospital you will want to move into Radford (old or new), Hale Moku, Doris Miller, Catlin Park, Halsey Terrace, and Hokulani. All those are real close to the base. You also have like McGrew Point, Ford Island, and Pearl City Peninsula but those are a little ways. Especially PCP and McGrew Point. Any other questions let me know. Tricare is an easy thing..it is finding the time.

I figure the worst part would be finding time to get in. The schedules of the doctors are full a lot. Not sure about OB/GYN but that would be done at Tripler more than likely.
