Yes, you are eating for three, but remember at this point #2 and #3 are very small and don't 'eat' a ton. Drink LOTS of water, and then drink some more. Eat when you are hungry and try to make sure you are eating healthy, but I know that is easier said than done when you are feeling sick. If you have good and bad times of the day, then try to eat during the times you don't usually feel naseous. If you are naseous all the time, and not keeping food down, than definitely bring it up with your doc.

I crafted a lengthy, informative, detailed response to this and was just about ready to post it when Caleb smacked the keyboard and it disappeared.:mad:

So, um, the gist of it was this! :p

Yes, you should eat! Not triple, but anywhere from 600 to 1000 calories more than usual, depending on your starting weight and health. It's important not to lose weight, and the quality of calories is more important than the actual numbers.

But honestly, even with a strict high-carb, lower protein, almost NO fat prescribed diet which started at 3000 calories and was increased from there... I didn't have any trouble eating everything (plus all the vegetables I wanted - they were free!! LOL) until the very end of the pregnancy. (I probably just ran out of room to put it all. LOL)

You'll be hungry, so eat! Try to make good choices most of the time, but indulge daily or at least almost daily. ;) GROW babies GROW!!!

Totally wrong. You don't need that many extra calories yet. I was so sick that I lost 10 lbs in the beginning with my twins. I've heard people say you should gain 20lbs by 20w with twins, but I definitely didn't do that. The key thing to do is make sure you get enough protein, which can be hard with morning sickness. I tried to get it anyway I could stomach it. I ended up doing a lot of hummus, peanut butter and non meat sources of protein like that. By the end I'd gained 35lbs and a bunch of that was fluid in the last week or so. I lost 20 with the delivery alone. I barely ate any veggies in my first trimester, but ate a ton after that because it's what sounded good.

Re: Help with food!!
Lots of doctors suggest 20lbs by 20wks, Dr B Luke is a good resource if you have time to read. I lost 15lbs my first tri, so those babies will take what they need first and you get the leftovers. When my MS left at 14wks I had no problem gaining weight after that;)
