help with preparing myself
Ladies I hope that you can help me with this. Because I have decided to go natural this time I feel like I should prepare myself after reading into it. They offer classes close by but my schedule doesn't match up all the time so I was wondering if there are any books that would help me out also? I'm still going to try to take a class but what class would be the best to take? DH goes to school full time and works 56 hr a week so getting him to go will be hard. Is it really necessary for him to be there? I can have my mom come and I'll talk to DH after about it. Really Sundays are the only ay that we don't have anything right now.

Re: help with preparing myself
It's important to have someone with you that is also going to be present during the birth. If your mom is going to be there for the birth then I'm sure she'll be a great support for you.

If you haven't already read "Guide to Childbirth" by Ina May Gaskin, I would highly recommend that one.

Re: help with preparing myself
I did Bradley classes with Lily and DH wasn't able to make any of them so I brought my best friend who attended the birth. It worked great. I just went over everything with DH at home.

Some books I found helpful were: Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, Natural Childbirth: the Bradley Way, Husband-Coached Childbirth, and Birthing From Within

Re: help with preparing myself
we have a stickied thread for books called "THE reading list" and the subforum "NCB information and articles of interest" has lots of great info.

I am personally for doing as much as one can to prepare, physically, mentally and emotionally. Lots of reading. Have you considered a program like hypnobabies or hypnobirthing?

Re: help with preparing myself
if you decide on bradley (highly recommend it btw) you can choose anyone to be your coach. a girl in my class had a hubby who traveled for work a lot so her doula attended with her (I would also really recommend a doula)

im not familiar with hypnobirthing or hypnobabies, but I think those are pretty self led?

I found watching water births on youtube to be extremly helpful for me (i was planning on a hospital watrebirth)...sorry nak
