Re: Telling older children
There is a book called "We asked for a baby, but got an angel instead". Or words to that effect.

Re: Telling older children
When we lost my daughter my son was nearly 3.5 years old. I was 39 weeks pregnant so after I came home we told him that the baby was sick and died. We explained that she was now in Heaven. He didn't say much at first but then started to ask a lot of questions. He asked many times if there was another baby in my belly, if we were going to have another baby, etc. I tried to be as honest as possible. I recently lost another pregnancy at 17 weeks and my son is now 4. Because he knows that we lost his sister, he seemed pretty unphased and just asked why all of our babies die. Kids are amazingly intuitive and I find that my son actually ends up comforting me. After we lost this 2nd baby he said "Well, at least we have each other."
