New to TTCMA
Hi ladies, I'm Shasta. You may have seen me on other boards (AIP, TTCAL, TTC#1) as I'm not new to JM, just to this section. My husband Jesse and I have been ttc for a year, with a miscarriage in March. Since then we have not been able to get pregnant again. I have had 2 miscarriages, and in Delaware 2 is considered a reason to see a fertility specialist, so I have an appointment tomorrow to see my new doctor and to get the ball rolling.

I'm not sure what the plan of attack is yet, but will let you all know once I get back from my appointment tomorrow (Tuesday). I don't think we need to do IVF, I'm thinking I just need help to get my hormones balanced out and hopefully they will look to see if I have a clotting disorder as well.

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Re: New to TTCMA
Hi Shasta - I LOVE your name! Are you named after Shasta Mountain in CA?
I think thats a volcano actually!

Welcome to the board. I've been on many other boards on JM also, but have found my home here. The ladies are fabulous and very informative and supportive. They even tell me things I don't want to hear sometimes. haha! Like they stick up for my DH a lot when I am mad at him. :) I can't even tell you how much they have helped me. I hope you get the same kind of support that I have here.

Let us know how your specialist appointment goes. Good luck to you and I hope your stay here is short.

Re: New to TTCMA
Hi Shasta! I was on some of those boards too! I remember you. I've been here in TTCMA since July. It's a great group of ladies here with a wealth of information. I've had 3 IUIs with Follistim and Ovidrel to trigger. I have a pregnancy blood test scheduled for Thursday (but I'm pretty sure we won't need it). We just scheduled our consulation for Friday to move onto IVF.
Good luck to you with your appointment today! Please let us know your protocol.
Have a great day...Mandy!

Hi Shasta! I remember you from around the boards.

Good luck with your RE appt today. I'm currently waiting for a complete RPL panel and karyotype to come back myself after multiple losses this year. I hope your RE can help get you some answers and help you get your sticky BFP

Re: New to TTCMA
Thank you for the warm welcome ladies! I just got back from the specialist and he's extremely concerned about why we haven't been able to get pregnant since my miscarriage. On the 7th I go in for all of the blood tests (B2 Gly, Anti Thyroid Antibodies, Thrombophilia Panel, Prenatal Panel, etc) as well as an initial exam and ultrasound along with a genetic consult and exam. They are having Jesse do an SA as well as a blood draw and unfortunately since I'm already on Day 5 of this cycle we won't be able to do anything else until the CD 21 karoytype progesterone test. Once I start my new cycle I'll go in for Day 3 bloodwork and between CD 5-10 I will go in for 2 ultrasounds (Sono w/saline and the HSG w/Iodine).

As soon as we get all of the information back from those tests we'll hopefully have a better understanding of what is going on in there.

Re: New to TTCMA
sounds like he's got a good plan to figure out what is going on!

Hi Shasta! :waves:

I've seen you over at AIP since I've been hanging around there lately but TTCw/MA will always be my *home*.

I am currently on 1000 mg of Met and 7.5 mg of Femara CD 3-7. I will be having my cervix dilated on 12/5 (CD 11). My issues are PCOS and cervical stenosis.

Sounds like you have a great plan and I hope you get some answers and a BFP quick!!! :)

Welcome Shasta! Your RE sounds great. Good luck with all the testing!

Re: New to TTCMA
Your RE does sound great. I like a Dr. that moves fast but not straight to IVF. :)

Re: New to TTCMA
He really is incredibly awesome. Apparently they have wonderful IVF rates if we do have to go that route. They have a really low multiples rate which makes me feel better about IVF. Our only issue is Tricare doesn't cover IUI or IVF. :(

KMH November 30th, 2011 03:24 PM

Re: New to TTCMA
Shasta, it sounds like your doctor is covering all the bases, which is pretty awesome, and I hope that you have some answers after all the testing. I know for me, having a plan of action really helps!

I hear you on the Tricare coverage (or lack thereof)! There are several of us on this board who are military wives, so we know how scary it is to have those $$$ hanging over your head. If you ever have questions about how to navigate through what they WILL pay for or just need to vent about them/TTC and the military, we're here for you

Re: New to TTCMA
yup, I feel ya on the tricare issues. we pay 2K per cycle for our DS IUI's..

Re: New to TTCMA
I am not a military wife and our insurance still doesn’t pay. They only pay for blood work and ultrasounds. My price is also about 2k a cycle for a medicated iui cycle.
Hopefully you won’t have to the route that some of us have had to go. Stay positive and happy Bding!

Re: New to TTCMA
PHEW! That's a hefty chunk of money to pay per cycle! We could do it, but only once Jesse makes Captain which is in May.

KMH December 1st, 2011 12:24 PM

Re: New to TTCMA
Ah, that Captain pay raise is a nice one, but you get used to it way too fast :)

Definitely ask about a discount or specials they have for self-pay patients. My RE gave us a deal, and my IUIs (Clomid, ultrasounds, and a trigger shot with the IUI itself) were only $614 per cycle.

[edited because I can't add]

Re: New to TTCMA
That would be great if you can get a self pay discount. Mine doesn't offer that. The only insurance I know in Ohio that pays for infertility is the teachers union. They get it all paid for. It would probably be cheaper for me to go back to school to be a teacher than it's going to be to pay for all of this!

Again - I hope you wont have to worry about any of this! :)
Good luck!

Re: New to TTCMA
Ours are only so expensive because of needing donor sperm. Without that, we only would pay about $600 per cycle if I was a normal person. I never react to the drugs right so I end up with extra monitoring appointments.
