Labor Cake - Chocolate Cake to Induce Labor?

Well, we’ve heard of it all but chocolate cake to bring on labor? Sounds yummy so why not? This labor inducing recipe sprouted life somewhere on the internet. Moms are always looking for different things to try and this recipe is a lot more appealing than a castor oil and O.J. shake.

How does it work? Hard to say. Chocolate contains small amounts of phenylethylamine. Phenylethylamine may have an effect on endorphin and oxytocin production. Oxytocin, if you didn’t know, is a hormone that is released during labor. Chocolate also contains caffeine and other stimulants, which might stimulate labor as well. This recipe tastes great and might be worth trying if you are past your due date.

Labor Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

Box of Devil's Food Cake mix
1 package chocolate instant pudding
1 12-oz package chocolate chips
1 cup sour cream

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350.

Prepare cake mix according to directions on box. Stir in chocolate pudding, sour cream, and chocolate chips.

Grease two 9 inch round baking pans. Pour mix in pans.

Bake in oven for about 45 minutes to an hour. To be sure cake is done, insert tooth pick in center of cake. It should come out clean when cake is ready.
