So Big
Play this game with your baby regularly and watch to see when she catches on.
Say to your baby “How big are you baby?” And then respond with “So
big!” Show your baby how to raise her arms up high as you say “so
big.” She may need some help with this at first but if you do this regularly
she will understand how to play the game.
Peekaboo
Your baby will love to play peekaboo. Cover your face with your hands and then
after a minute uncover your face and say “peekaboo.” This game is
sure to have your baby giggling and having a good time.
Patty-Cake
Play patty-cake with your baby. Have him sit in your lap while you play. You
can start by just helping him clap his hands while you say the rhyme. As he
gets older he can clap on his own or you can pat your hands together to play
this game.
The Itsy Bitsy Spider
Sing the itsy bitsy spider with baby in your lap. You can start by doing the
motions yourself for the song and as your baby gets older she can start doing
the motions too.
This Little Piggy
Have your baby sit in your lap while you play with his piggies. Start with the
big toe and say “this little piggy went to market” and then move
to the next toe. The rest of the toes go like this “this little piggy
stayed home, this little piggy had roast beef, this little piggy had none, and
this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way home”.
Body Parts
Help your baby learn where his body parts are by playing games. Ask your baby
“Where is your nose?” Then show him where his nose is. Or you can
touch his belly and say “belly, belly, belly, mommy’s got your belly.”
Babies also love to point at mommy’s body parts.
Animal Sounds
Help your baby learn animal sounds by asking her “what does the cow say?”
Answer her with “the cow says moo.” The more outrageous and funny
you are with this the easier it is for baby to catch on. Soon your baby will
know all her animal sounds.
These are just a few of the classic games you can play with baby. Making up
your own games, reading books to your baby, and making time for play are important
for your baby’s development.
