The Most Popular Baby Names of 2008

There’s a new most popular name for girls in America, according to the Social Security’s latest release of the top baby names of 2008.

After a 12-year run, Emily was knocked out of the top spot and replaced with Emma! Jacob remains the favorite name for boys for the tenth year in a row.

The top Ten List is

6. Alexander

7. Anthony

9. Christopher

10. Matthew

Girls

1. Emma

2. Isabella

3. Emily

4. Madison

5. Ava

9. Elizabeth

10. Chloe

In other interesting baby name updates, the biggest climber in the popularity ranks was Khloe with a “k”– according to the SS release, the reason being the popularity of the Kardashian family – with Khloe being one of the daughters. Another rising star was Miley (Miley Cyrus, anyone?!) which jumped to 127 on the list.

Barack didn’t quite make the top 1000 – but did also gain impressive movement, increasing from 12,535 in 2007 to 2,409 in 2008.
