Stressed? Try a Cup of Tea

By JustMommies

A spot of tea really does take the anxiety away! A new report out of Britain proves that the soothing drink does help calm those nerves during stressful times.

According to HealthDay, Dr. Malcolm Cross, a psychologist at the City University London, conducted the study which tested stress levels in groups of people before and after they had a cup of tea.

After putting them through a stressful situation, half of the group had tea and the other were given water. The tea drinkers's anxiety levels were four percent less than before they even started the stress test, while those given water increased by 25 percent.

Cross explained: "The ritual of making and drinking tea -- particularly during times of stress -- is at the very core of British culture. This study shows that the social psychological aspects of tea enhance the effects of its chemical make-up on our bodies and brains."
